Since March 2020, Paul has been walking with his Osseointegration prosthesis. Paul consulted with the Surgeon and agreed to undergo the procedure, the first single-stage osseointegration patient in India. This was a new procedure in India for major amputations, though reasonably popular around the rest of the world. When Paul started walking with the prosthesis, the grafted skin would break down into wounds and blisters.Įnd of 2019, Paul discovered Osseointegration – direct anchoring of the stump bone to the prosthesis. The Doctors managed to avoid a higher amputation but had to use skin grafts to cover the bone. Paul Varghese had to undergo an above-knee amputation in 2004 due to a road traffic accident. Sometimes courage is the little voice at the end of the day that says I'll try again tomorrow.”
